How Cynthia Kimola Became A Voice-Over Artist

As a child, Cynthia Kimola was always intrigued and excited whenever a commercial played on radio or TV and she would imitate the voice-over artist and even give the ad her own spin, much to the awe of the grown-ups around her. When she decided to pursue journalism studies in 2008 at Daystar University in Kenya, Cynthia’s favourite place on campus was the university radio station.

This is where she nurtured her love for audio and ended up reading the radio news, hosting a hip hop show, heading the programming unit and also the place that gave Cynthia a taste of the beautiful and creative world of voice-overs.

She would do voice-overs for her hip hop show, the various station programs and also for clubs and societies that needed to announce something to the student body on air.

These voice-overs were dear to her as she used them as her demos to land her first national radio news job and also to get into voice-overs professionally where she booked her first national TV commercial. And it’s been booked job after booked job from then on, working with Kenyan, Regional and Global clients.

Why Cynthia Loves Doing Voice-Overs

Cynthia is passionate about voice-overs because she gets to use her gift, her voice to help individuals, small businesses and large corporates to convey their messages across to audiences. She’s also always exhilarated to use her voice to help bring your ideas to life, ensuring they’re not just words on a script but a wonderful story with a lifeline.

Cynthia also loves being an African voice-over artist because storytelling is part of us and Africans should be able to tell and voice their own stories. Globalisation has also opened up the voice-over world and she is able to work with international clients who want a diverse voice that reflects their values as a company.
